Abstract

1373152 Multi-spindle lathes WERKZEUGMASCHINENKOMBINAT "7 OKTOBER" BERLIN VEB 8 Feb 1972 5821/72 Heading B3T A multi-spindle automatic lathe comprises a bed 1 with a headstock 2 and an end frame 3 facing the headstock, the headstock carrying an indexable, spindle drum 4 with a plurality of rotary work spindles 7 and the end frame carrying a plurality of tool spindles each in the form of a stationary sleeve 9 on a support 10 with a concentric rotary shaft 12 for carrying stationary turning tools and rotary tools respectively. The end frame 3 is connected with the headstock by way of a guide tube 5 which is indexable with the spindle drum and coaxial therewith. The drive from the work spindles is conveyed to the end frame by way of a shaft 6 coaxial within the tube 5 and which drives the tool shafts 12 through gears 14 and spline 16, the tool sleeves 9 and shafts 12 being axially slidable in their supports 10. The headstock also carries a plurality of cross slides 18 with tools 23 there being one less cross-slide and one less tool sleeve and shaft than there are work spindles whereby at one of the indexed stations of the spindle drum workplaces can be removed and a fresh one inserted in the respective spindle at that station. The spindle sleeves 9 carry a tool mounting 11 for one or more turning and facing tools 22 and the coaxial tool shaft carries a rotary tool 24 the sleeve and shaft being axially displaceable together to permit the tools to perform machining operations on the workpiece 25 whilst simultaneously the tools 23 carried in the cross slides machine other appropriate surfaces on the workpiece, the orientation of the cutting tools at any one work station to which the work spindles are indexed being such that the cutting edges of the turning tools 22, 23 lie in a common working plane which also contains the axis of the work spindle 7 and of the tool sleeve 9.
