Abstract

939,895. Valve gear. B.M.G. MOTOR-CYCLES Ltd. May 17, 1962, No. 19080/62. Class 7(6). Valve gear comprises a rocker 1, Fig. 1, moved positively in two opposite directions by a rod 7 and valve closing means 16, pivoted about the rocker axis and operatively connected by a torsion bar 15, Fig. 2, to the rocker, to close the valve when the rocker is moved in the closing direction. The valve collar 18 is engaged by the forked end 17, secured to torsion bar 15 which is freely mounted in collars 21 carried in the hollow spindle 6 of the rocker. The projecting end of bar 15 is keyed to a block 25 and secured by a nut 26. A block 23 is secured to spindle 6 and a pin 27 engages an aligned pair of holes of a vernier hole arrangement in blocks 23, 25, to adjust the spacing between the arms 1, 16, or the torsion bar may be secured directly to the rocker. The cam follower 28 is pivoted at 30 and reciprocates the rocker through rod 7 which is pivoted to an L-shaped yoke 9, adjustably secured to the rocker by a screwed stud 12. In a modification, the yoke has two limbs 10, 37, Fig. 4, and a projection 42, of stud 12, engages a cup 44 in a socket member 40 which is secured to an adjustable extension 41 of shaft 7.
