Abstract

939,078. Lubrication. LOXHAMS ENGINEERING WORKS Ltd. July 13, 1962 [July 18, 1961], No. 25937/61. Class 12 (3). A lubrication system has a distributer with a ported rotor in a ported stator and has a ratchet mechanism which rotates the rotor stepby-step in synchronism with the working cycle of the engine &c. being lubricated. An oil-feed pipe enters the stator and leads to an axial port in the rotor and a number of oil-delivery ports lead from the stator and register successively with a radial port in the rotor. The feedpipe has a check-valve therein. In an embodiment, a casing 1, of the distributer, is mounted on a support 2 and is secured thereto by screws 3. The casing 1 contains an impulse pump having a plunger 4, Fig. 3, in a liner 5, the plunger being reciprocated by a radial arm 6 on a shaft 7 which is mounted in bearings in walls of the casing 1. The shaft 7 carries an arm 8, Fig. 4, which is connected by a member 9 to an oscillating plate 10 on a spindle 11, which has a ratchet wheel 12 thereon engaged by a spring-pressed feed pawl 13 mounted on the plate 10. Return movements of the ratchet-wheel 12 are prevented by a spring-pressed pawl 14 carried by the casing 1. An arm 15, Fig. 2, is carried by the shaft 7 and has at one end thereof a roller 16 which engages a cam 17, the rotation of which displaces the arms 15, 6 and 8 to cause the plunger 4 to supply oil to an outlet pipe 19 and to trail the pawl 13 to the next tooth of the wheel 12. The arms are returned to their initial positions by a spring 18, connected to the arm 15 and the support 2, and the pawl 13 rotates the wheel 12 a distance equal to one tooth. The pipe 19 is connected to a radial port 26, Fig. 5, of a rotor 20, which is in a housing 21 secured to the casing 1. Oil passes from the port 26, via an annular space 27, through an axial port 30 and into a radial port 31, which registers with one of a series of delivery ports 32. Each port 32 communicates with a delivery conduit 33 leading, for example, to a quill, as described in Specification 939,077.
