A remote indicator for a liquid dispensing apparatus comprises a set of numeral drums loosely mounted on a shaft which is driven in a zeroizing direction at the beginning of each dispensing operation, a frictional arrangement coupling the drums to the shaft until zero is attained. Tne volume and price registers, to the left and right of Fig. 1, operate in like manner. Operation of a pump switch energizes motor 5 to drive shaft 4 on which all the register drums are mounted loosely. Solenoids 14 and 60 simultaneously energize. The former lifts transfer actuating pawls 18 into inoperative position and zero stop members 31, Fig. 3, and 42, Fig. 6, into operative positions so as subsequently to engage zero stops 17 and 41 on the higher and lowest denomination drums respectively. Solenoid 14 also disconnects clutch 8 to disconnect drive to the lowest denomination drum. Movement of pawls 18 allows spring 54 to provide a friction drive from shaft 4 to the numeral drums which therefore rotate in a forward direction to zero positions. Solenoid 60 connects a drive, Fig. 5, to cam 66 to maintain switch 73 open for one revolution after which cam 66 closes contacts 69, 70 to energize the pump motor. The pump motor drives the lowest numeral drum 1 in each register through appropriate gearing. At each revolution of drum 1 a cam 29 closes and opens a switch so that solenoid 22 oscillates transfer pawl 18 to engage pins 16 and advance the next higher drum 3, movement being assisted by spring 50 or not according to whether the speed of the zeroizing shaft 4 is lower or higher than the speed of the drum 1.
