938,602. Reciprocating pumps. HOUDAILLE INDUSTRIES Inc. April 26, 1961 [Nov. 14, 1960], No. 15102/61. Class 102(1). [Also in Group XXIX] In a lubricant pump a sight glass 40 is provided with visual means for measuring the rate of flow of lubricant without causing cessation of flow from the pump. The sight glass has chambers 41, 42 connected by a calibrated bore 43, lubricant being either drawn into or supplied under pressure to chamber 41 via a drip tube 51 and withdrawn from chamber 42 by a cam-actuated plunger 14. To measure the flow-rate lubricant is admitted to fill bore 43, the feed is then cut-off with valve 65, chamber 41 vented and the time taken by the pump to withdraw a known quantity from bore 43 noted. The feed to chamber 41 is then restored before chamber 42 empties. In a modification drip tube 51 enters through the cover 55 of the sight glass.
