Abstract
1385671 Gas-liquid contact apparatus OPEN UNIVERSITY 10 Jan 1972 [9 Oot 1970] 48099/70 Heading B1R [Also in Division G1] A gas-liquid contact apparatus comprises a pump 1 for drawing up gas at a measured rate through valve 2 and conical bore flow meter 3, and an upright tube 6 with its lower end 10 in a receptacle 9 at a predetermined distance below its surface of liquid 8 contained therein when no pressure is applied, wherein; when its pump is actuated, the reduction in pressure in the tube 6 causes the liquid surface to full below the end of the tube bubbles to rise through the liquid and liquid to be carried up into the tube. The liquid my contain a substance capable of reacting with a component in the gas to be detected or measured. In the example the liquid is a starch/KI solution in water which is converted from blue to colourless by SO 2 in the gas, the change being measured by means of a photocell colorimeter.
