Abstract

938,570. Cartons. F. GOUGH & SON Ltd., and E. G. HULME. April 26, 1961 [April 27, 1960; Oct. 11, 1960], Nos. 14810/60 and 34811/60. Class 18. A stackable cardboard box comprises 2 opposed sides 13 and a partition 27 extending between them, the partition being held erect by tabs 26 engaging in slots cut in the sides such that the tabs pass through the slots and between the double thickness sides, said partition including a ledge 24 extending parallel to the base. The box, which may be of corrugated cardboard, has portions 17 of the end walls 12 removed to allow ventilation, and tabs 29 and associated slots 30 to provide positive stacking. In a modification, the partition has handles cut and folded upwards from the material of the ledges 24 (which provide stacking support), the two vertical walls of the partition being spaced apart. Fig. 3 shows a second modification and in a third modification, the upper ledge 43, Fig. 3, is dispensed with and end tabs included on the lower ledge 42 to provide a single thickness assymetric ledge. In all cases the partition may be stapled in addition to being held by tabs. The sides 13 converge upwardly and the sides 12 diverge upwardly, these slight slopes helping to maintain the box shape when stacked.
