Abstract

937,844. Discharge tubes; nuclear fusion reactors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 12, 1960 [April 14, 1959], No. 12707/59. Classes 39 (1) and 39 (4). A heavy current electric discharge toroidal tube is provided with a graphite liner having a high electrical resistance and insulatingly supported within the tube to protect the tube walls against arcing. The tube may be of metal with insulating gaps or of metal having a high resistance or of ceramic material. The graphite liner may be continuous or constructed of a number of sectors abutting end to end. The liner 2, Fig. 2, may be located by insulating spacers 4 which extend along the tube 1 or by a number of short spacers 5, Fig. 3, inset into the liner 2. Where the liner consists of a number of sections each section may be supported independently.
