Abstract
937,634. Shearing. SIEMAG SIEGNER MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. June 29, 1962 [June 22, 1961], No. 24968/62. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIV] An overload relief device for a shears having a freely swinging pendulum arm and a carriage movable in a carriage guide in that arm and carrying the upper knife is characterized by a slipping clutch between the driving motor and the pendulum arm and by means which, when an overload occurs, pivots said arm against a stop, releases one side of said guide carriage and allows the carriage to be deflected relative to the arm. The shears comprises a frame 1 and an eccentric shaft 3 driven by a motor through a slipping clutch (not shown). The pendulum arm 4 pivots about the axis of the shaft 3 and its movement is limited by a surface 5 engaging a stop 6. The upper knife 9 is mounted on a carriage 8 which reciprocates between guides 11 and 12 and is pivotally attached at 10 to a crank arm. The lower blade 7 is rigidly attached to the pendulum arm 4. The guide 12 is pivotally mounted at 13 and is normally connected to the arm 4 by a break-off bolt 14. If an overload occurs the arm 4 swings against the stop, the bolt 14 fractures and the carriage 8 is able to tilt by rotating the arm 12 about its pivot so that the upper knife 9 moves clear of the material 15. A spring may be used instead of the break-off bolt 14.
