Abstract

A coke oven battery, e.g. of the gun flue regenerative type, comprises a plurality of spaced apart coking chambers with heating walls therebetween, each chamber being variably horizontally tapered outwardly from the pusher side to the coke side, the taper being steeper at the pusher side than at the coke side. In an example, each chamber is divided into five zones each ten feet long, the taper, starting at the pusher end, being:-1,25, 1,0, 0,75, 0,5, 0,5 inches per zone respectively.
