Abstract
1,132,345. Carbonizing furnace. G. T. MOORES. 7 Dec., 1966 [10 Jan., 1966; 11 Nov., 1966], Nos. 52504/65 and 50605/66. Heading F4B. [Also in Division C5] Material to be heated, particularly coconut hulls for the production of carbon, is fed upwardly in cocurrent with heating gases by a vibratory conveyer. A helical conveyer 13 enclosed in a furnace chamber 14 leads from the vibratory input bowl 10 to an outlet shoot 21. Damper-controlled flues 16, 18 lead from the top and an intermediate point of the chamber 14, and the lower part of the furnace may be heated. A central damper controlled flue with apertures 24 above the normal levels of the charge may serve to deliver and extract gases from the furnace chamber. The charge may be heated by gases delivered at the bottom of the helical conveyer. The conveyer may be formed in sections, the upper end of each section terminating above the lower end of the succeeding section. In this case burners may deliver into the gaps between adjoining sections. The walls of the chamber may be made in longi. tudinal sections, each carrying a section of the conveyer. The volatiles produced may be used to heat the furnace.
