Abstract

937,023. Flame throwers; fire extinguishing. AEROJET - GENERAL CORPORATION. April 19, 1962, No. 15241/62. Classes 47 and 119. [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVIII] A liquid projection apparatus, e.g. for use as a flame thrower or fire extinguisher, comprises a tank 10 having a non-linear axis and housing a free piston 14 movable by pressure fluid to eject the contents of the tank. In the embodiment shown, a gas-generating chamber 11 comprising a slow-burning cartridge 13 and igniter 11c is provided. Piston 14 comprises a resilient sphere, e.g. of synthetic rubber, sealingly engaging the tank wall. A frangible end cap 12a is provided on nozzle 12b. Other piston constructions (see Group XXVI) comprise resilient, oval, hollow bodies open at their pressure fluid ends and having walls biased against the tank wall. U.S.A.
