Abstract

A rapid-release closure for sealing an orifice, for example the nozzle of a fire-extinguisher in which a fluid is stored under pressure, comprises a membrane sealing said orifice and rupturable at a pressure below the storage pressure of the fluid, support means such as a plug juxtaposed against the membrane to support the membrane against premature rupture and releasable retaining means such as a withdrawable pin to maintain the support means in position. 0n release of the pin the membrane is immediately ruptured by the fluid pressure allowing unimpeded flow of fluid through the orifice. <IMAGE>
