Abstract
The process of Specification 892,113 in which low boiling impurities are removed from hydrocarbon mixtures by passing the crude mixtures through a vertical stripping device in countercurrent with steam and hydrocarbon vapours at a temperature below the boiling point of the hydrocarbon to be purified and above that of the impurities to be removed, and then passing the vapours rising from the stripping device through a rectifying column device above and communicating with the stripping device in countercurrent with water, and finally condensing the vapours in or after passing through the rectifying column, is modified by adding the step of recycling the condensed fraction collected from the rectifying column back as a reflux in counterflow with the vapours rising from the stripping device. The apparatus of Specification 892,113 is modified by adding a further rectifying device between the original stripping device and rectifying column so as to produce counterflow between the condensed fraction and the vapour discharged. In an example, low boiling impurities, particularly carbon disulphide, are removed from a crude benzole.
