Abstract

<PICT:0892113/III/1> Low boiling impurities are removed from hydrocarbon mixtures obtained in the distillation of coal, petroleum oils, and in the catalytic refining of hydrocarbon fractions by passing the crude liquid through a vertical stripping device in countercurrent with steam and hydrocarbon vapours at a temperature below the boiling point of the hydrocarbon to be purified and above that of the impurities to be removed, and then passing the vapours rising from the stripping device through a rectifying column device above and communicating with the stripping device in countercurrent with water and finally condensing the vapours in or after passing through the rectifying column and collecting the purified hydrocarbon and water from the stripping device and lower boiling impurities from the rectifying column. In a preferred embodiment a crude gas works benzole containing 2,5% w/w of low boiling impurities (including 0,6% of CS2) is passed at 20 DEG C. through line 1 into a stripping section I. Steam is passed in through line 10 and the vapours rising from the stripping section pass through a line 11 to a section II. Water is recirculated via line 5 at a temperature of 44 DEG C. and vapour passes from the head of section II at an outlet temperature of 39 DEG -41 DEG C. The purified benzole 3 is decanted from the water 4 and has a CS2 content of 0,00005%.
