Abstract

936,817. Mixing fluids in flow. NUQUIP Ltd. Jan. 25, 1962 [Jan. 27, 1961], No. 3212/61. Addition to 905,342. Class 86. [Also in Groups XII, XXIX and XXXIV] Apparatus for introducing a predetermined proportion of liquid into a stream of gas comprises a valve member 19 seating on an annular seat 12 and having a hollow stem 20, mounted in a housing 1 having gas inlet and outlet connections 2, .3. In operation the pressure of gas in the inlet 2 is transmitted through passages 14 and 13 to the underside of the valve which is lifted, permitting the gas to reach the outlet 3; there will be a pressure drop across the valve. The inlet pressure is also transmitted through passage 15 to the surface 17 of liquid in a transparent container 4; the liquid flows through passages 16, 21 into the interior of the hollow valve stem, through the passage 24 (formed by a flat on the screw 23), and out through a jet orifice formed between the radial groove 25 in the head of the valve member 19, and the head 26 of the screw 23. The valve stem 20 may be made of light material of density as near as possible to that of the oil. As the oil level drops, the effective weight of the stem will increase, thereby increasing the pressure drop across the valve. The apparatus may be used for dispersing oil as a mist in a stream of air.
