Abstract
849,627. Mixing fluids in flow. FISCHER & PORTER CO. Aug. 24, 1956 [Dec. 2, 1955], No. 25993/56. Class 86 [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXIX] A dry feed system for introducing a minor fluid into a major moving stream comprises an ejector 110, Fig. 5 (see Group XXVIII) through which flows the major stream of water from a supply line 28, which flow induces the flow on the minor fluid of chlorine from the pipe 25, the resultant mixture being discharged to the outlet pipe 30. The chlorine is supplied from containers 99, 100 through a filter 18 and pipe 21 to the inlet 22 of a regulator 23, the outlet 24 of which is connected to the pipe 25. The regulator 23, Fig. 6, is provided with a gas inlet chamber 75 separated from a chamber 70, vented to atmosphere, by a diaphragm 39 and a gas outlet chamber 98 separated from a balancing chamber 81 by a diaphragm 40. The inlet chamber 70 is connected to balancing chamber 81 by piping connecting an outlet 31 to an inlet 32 and thence by passages 63, 64 and the inlet chamber 70 is also connected to the outlet chamber 98 by piping from the outlet 31 to an inlet 34, which piping contains a rate valve in the form of an adjustable orifice. Such piping is shown in Fig. 5 with the rate valve 35 and a flowmeter 33 which is the subject of Specification 849,628 (see Group XXIX). A spring loaded gas inlet 56 is provided with a stem 58 and abuts a plug 45 attached to the diaphragm 39. The diaphragm 40 is loaded by a spring 94 and carries a plug 86 housing a valve member 88 which throttles the outlet 24. When the suction is created by the stream of water the diaphragm 39 moves down to open the valve 56 and admit the gas to the regulator. The gas passes from the inlet chamber 75 to the balancing chamber 81 and also through the rate-valve to the outlet chamber 98. Depending on the setting of the rate-valve the pressure differential on either side of the diaphragm 40 and the spring 94 causes this diaphragm to assume a certain position which thus determines the throttle setting of the outlet 24 and the amount of gas drawn into the stream. A vacuum-relief valve 49 is provided having a stem 48 and end member 50 which is opened by a member 46 screwed to the plug 45 when a sudden rise in the vacuum in the system occurs, this allows atmospheric air to enter the system through the vent chamber and passage 80. Should the pressure in the gas inlet chamber suddenly increase the diaphragm 39 rises to open a pressure relief valve 66 to allow the gas to escape to the atmosphere.
