Abstract
936,581. Stator winding machines. GOBLIN (B.V.C.) Ltd. May 15, 1961 [Feb. 15, 1960], No. 5321/60. Class 35. A machine for winding the stator coils of an electric machine comprises means for rigidly mounting the stator core and a needle having a cranked end, the needle being arranged to be driven by a pin-and-socket connection with a rotating chain which reciprocates the needle through the core and partially rotates it at either end of the chain travel to lead the wire from one slot to another. As described, needle 16 is driven by a motor 3 through a friction variable speed drive 6, 7 by means of a chain 13, one link of which carries a pin 14 engaging with a block 15 on the needle 16. The stator is held in a clamp 2 carrying guides 31 and rotation of the chain causes cranked end 17 of the needle to reciprocate through the core and to change its angular direction at the end of each stroke. Wire carried by the needle is thus laid in one slot of the stator, round one guide, back through a further slot, and round the other guide. The wire is stored on a bobbin 20, and is led upwards through a funnel 21 to a felt roller which is acted upon by a tensioning device comprising a shoe 26 and a spring wire 27 carrying a pulley 28. The wire passes between the shoe and roller, over pulley 28 to further pulleys on the needle. Plastic tongues 23 are also provided to prevent premature unwinding of the bobbin, and a ring 24 having inwardly projecting hairs may also be provided to control the speed of unwinding.
