Abstract

862,054. Stator winding machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 29, 1957 [May 29, 1956]. No. 16586/56. Class 35. In a stator winding machine wherein the stator is prevented from moving angularly but is movable axially on two guide cylinders, the wire guides are disposed between the adjacent ends of the cylinders and are angularly moved between the stator movements. The stator, denoted by dotted line 31 in Fig. 1, is held in a clamp 32 on a slide 29 arranged to reciprocate on the base 1 the ends 3, 4 of which carry sleeves 5, 6 having splines 52 spaced and sized to enter the stator slot mouths. Sleeve 6 is so mounted on member 9 that it can be slid away from sleeve 5 to allow the stator to be placed in position or removed. Sleeve 5 surrounds a sleeve 18 carrying a cup 15 in which are guides 21 with bores 28 for the passage of wires 27, equal in number to the stator poles, fed through the sleeve 18 which is coupled to a hollow shaft 146 (Fig. 7) angularly moved through racks and gearing from lever 126 having a peg 111 in the cam slot of drum 107. Each wire is fed a predetermined number of times, dependent on the speed of rotation of discs 193, 195, 196, 197, into each of four pairs of slots in turn, the corresponding angles through which the shaft 146 is rotated being determined by the position of roller 129 in the slot of lever 126, the roller 129 being on a rack 131 (which drives shaft 146 from gearing including pinion 137) vertically moved in stages through the distances between discs 193, 195, 196, 197, as soon as these discs have rotated through a large enough angle to bring a slot in the disc periphery opposite a catch on a stirrup embracing the rack 31. The cam drum 107 is an extension of the drum 106, the peg 110 of which causes reciprocations of the stator slide 29, the drum being gear connected to the pulley 114 driven by a motor which also rotates the discs 193, 195, 196 and 197 (equal in number to the slot pairs per pole) through a large reduction gear and a pawl and ratchet. Arrangements are made to ensure that the movements of shaft 146 exactly correspond to the pitches of the coils. Specifications 419,917 and 862,055 are referred to.
