Abstract

936,111. Radar; aerials; R.F. couplings. A. C. COSSOR Ltd. Sept. 18, 1959 [June 18, 1958], No. 19480/58. Class 40 (7). Jamming and reflections from raindrops and " window " are eliminated from a radar system by rejecting radiation with non-random polarization. The axially rotatable phase-changing grating 12<SP>1</SP>, which is preferably #/4 long is positioned to convert elliptically and circularly polarized radiation to plane polarized. The rotatable rectangular horn 13<SP>1</SP> is positioned to block waves of this polarization. Unpolarized wanted reflections are unaffected by these settings which are made empirically for optimum reflection. If a jamming station tranmits plane polarized radiation with a rotating plane of polarization the grating 12<SP>1</SP> and horn 13<SP>1</SP> are rotated in synchronism with the plane of polarization.
