Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible direction finding while making the equipment smaller, lighter and highly reliable by detecting the amplitude ratio and the phase difference between the main polarization component and the cross polarization component of the incoming wave. CONSTITUTION:The antenna 1 is used for transmitting and recieving, in which the cross polarization component fed by the linearly polarized wave with respect to the radiation characteristics thereof has the cyclic phase distribution in the direction of the bearing psi in the coordinate system with the angle to the center axis 2 of the beam as zenith angle theta. Then, the phase difference is detected 22 between the main polarization component and the cross polarization component of the wave transmitted or received to determine the bearing psi to the radio wave referring to the forecast phase distribution 28 of the antenna 1. The amplitude ratio is detected 21 between the main polarization component and the cross polarization component to determine the zenith angle theta to the radio wave referring to the forecast amplitude distribution 27 of the antenna 1. As a result, the finding of the direction can be done easily.
