Abstract
935,737. Releasable fastenings. A. WRIGHT. Aug. 31, 1959 [Sept. 8, 1958], No. 28778/58. Class 44. [Also in Group XXXIII] Galvanized steel sheets 14, 15 (covering sections 12a, 12b of insulation on a ship's bulkhead 11, or on a wall of an engine- or boiler-room or a hull surface) are supported by brackets, also of sheet metal, held by nuts 23 on horizontal rows of studs 17 welded to the bulkhead 11 and extending between the insulation sections 12a, 12b. The brackets each have an inset portion 22 which compresses the horizontal margins of the insulation sections and a portion 18 with an upwardly-open recess receiving the bottom edge of a steel sheet 15 and a downwardly-open recess receiving the top edge of a steel sheet 14. Either edge may be the nearer to the insulation. There may be narrow brackets each on a single stud 17 or a single bracket embracing the whole length of the adjoining sheet edges. At the top and bottom of a bulkhead, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), angle-sectioned strips of the metal cover the edge and face of a small insulation strip completing the covering, the horizontal edges of the vertical faces of the angle strips being located in recesses of brackets secured to studs near the top and bottom of the bulkhead 11. The top edge of the top metal sheet, Fig. 3, (not shown), may be bent over to hook into a recess of a topmost bracket to share the recess with an edge of the angle strips. Anglesectioned strips are also used at bulkhead corners, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), with a row of studs 17 at each face of the corner and with corresponding brackets. The vertical edges of the metal covering sheets 14, 15 may be closed by elements of H-section or these edges may have perpendicular flanges held together by U-section clamping strips sunk into the insulation or projecting. The vertical edges of two insulation sections 12, Fig. 7, may contact an angle stiffener 91 and the edge of this be covered by an insulation strip 93 capped by a channel member 95 (of the sheet metal) which encloses perpendicular flanges 94 at the edges of the covering sheets 14 and is secured thereto by screws 96.
