935,082. Spinning and finishing yarns. BROCKLEHURST - WHISTON AMALGAMATED Ltd., and V. CASTLE. Jan. 21, 1960 [Jan. 27, 1959], No. 2931/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 120 (3). A compound yarn, in which high stretch and bulk properties due to helical crimp may be developed when the yarn is released, is produced by intertwisting at least two " thermoplastic " yarns, the doubling twist being in the same direction as the twist in the component yarns, setting the doubled yarn in the twisted condition, and then reverse twisting the doubled yarn to an extent which exceeds the original doubling twist so as to leave a reverse twist of at least four turns per inch in the compound yarn. The remanent twist is dependent on the count, and increases with the fineness, of the yarn. The component yarns may be staple and continuous filament yarns of acrylics, polyamides or polyesters, or of wool. The doubled yarn may be set and/or relaxed under dry, moist or wet heat conditions.
