Abstract

A process for separating solid particles from a liquid in which they are suspended, and towards which they are lyophobic, comprises adding to the suspension a bridging liquid to which the solid is lyophilic in an amount from 1% to 100% by volume of the solid, the amount being sufficient to wet and form a film on the surface of the particles, subjecting the resulting mixture to mechanical agitation and turbulent conditions to flocculate the wetted particles and to compact the flocculates into dense spherical agglomerates, and separating these agglomerates from the suspendant liquid.
