Abstract
508,324. Washing coal. SIMON-CARVES, Ltd., and CARBERT, G. G. M. Feb. 11, 1938, No. 4279. [Class 82 (ii)] A mixture of finely ground burnt pyrites and water, with or without other substances, is used as a heavy liquid in coal washing. The pyrites may contain some copper pyrites and alkalies such as lime or soda may be added to the water to neutralize acid substances present in the burnt pyrites. A mixture composed of 40 parts of burnt pyrites and 60 parts of water, giving a specific gravity of 1.45, is described. The suspension may be maintained by means of an agitator running on a substantially horizontal shaft. The use of liquid other than water is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
