934,586. Hydraulic jet propulsion apparatus. R. PERRIER, and J. COMBARD. Nov. 28, 1961 [Nov. 29, 1960; Nov. 23, 1961], No. 42511/61. Classes 113 and 114. An hydraulic jet propulsion apparatus comprises two pipes 37, 37<SP>1</SP> which are arranged symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis of the craft and which project through the transom 48 of a boat to discharge water from a pump 32, driven by a motor 31, above the normal water-level of the craft. Each pipe 37 or 37<SP>1</SP> is provided with a reversing deflector 49 which may be moved vertically in the tubes 46 and 47 by a mechanical linkage extending from a command position (not shown), from a retracted position where the bore 50 aligns with the pipe 37 or 37<SP>1</SP> to a deflecting position, shown in Fig. 11, where the jet is deflected forward by the groove 51. A valve 38 is provided at the junction of the pipes 37, 37<SP>1</SP> which is rotated by a mechanical linkage (not shown) from the command position so as to vary the output from each pipe 37 or 37<SP>1</SP> so that the craft may be steeerd. The reversing deflector may be disposed at the junction of the pipes 37, or 37<SP>1</SP> and a valve may be provided adjacent the outlet of each pipe. The Specification describes a resilient, e.g. rubber, mounting for the pump and motor.
