Abstract

934,393. Moulding reinforced plastic tubes. S. PAVICEVIC. April 26, 1962 [April 28, 1961], No. 15910/62. Class 87(2). A mould, for producing reinforced plastic tubes, comprises a rigid tubular shell 1, end plates 10, 11, and an expansible core, Fig. 3, comprising two longitudinally split resilient tubes 2, 3 fitted one inside the other, the two splits being angularly dislpaced from each other. The outer split tube 3 is chamfered, adjacent to the split, so as to merge smoothly into the contour of the inner tube 2. The angular separation of the splits is maintained by pegs 2a. When the mould is assembled the volume enclosed by the core and end plates is rendered vacuum tight by resilient end seals 15 and by seals 8, 9 between the two split tubes. The shell and end plates are similarly sealed by end seals 16. One embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), comprises a divided shell with chambers 17, 18 for the passage of steam or coolant. The shell and core may be shaped as in Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), if tubes having wide or narrow end sections are required. In operation, glass fibre impregnated with liquid plastic is wound on to the core. The mould is assembled, and by means of ports 13, 14, the space between the core and shell, containing the plastic, is evacuated, while pressure is applied inside the core.
