A gas storage container of the kind formed of a network of geodetically wound threads, e.g. glass fibre, surrounding a lining 8 and set in plastic material has an axial tube 4 which is rigidly secured to one pole cap 5 and is axially displaceable relative to the other pole cap 6 being resiliently sealed thereto at 7, and the tube 4 has service apertures 9 in its wall. The tube extends through the pole caps and is used to support the container. The seal 7 may comprise a resilient diaphragm which absorbs strain set up in the container wall 2.
