Abstract
934362 Gas liquefaction apparatus PHILCO CORP 15 Sept 1960 [15 Sept 1959] 31786/60 Headings F4H and HG13 Gas e.g., compressed nitrogen liquefaction apparatus comprises a coiled finned metal tube 32 and a coiled unfinned tube 34 arranged in parallel within a Dewar flask 9 and connected together at the upper end by a coupling 38 to a compressed gas supply and discharging through a common expansion orifice 35 at the other end; the so cooled gas passing upwardly over the coils 32, 34 to effect differential cooling of the same until the temperature falls sufficiently to allow of liquefaction of the expanded gas which collects in a pool 30. The liquefied gas serves to maintain an infrared cell 17 at a low temperature over a period of several hours.
