Abstract
977,220. Cold separation of air. = SOC. L'AIR LIQUIDE S.A. POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE. Feb. 26, 1963 [Feb. 27, 1962], No. 7774/63. Heading F4P. In a two-stage air rectification process for the production of an oxygen-rich fraction wherein a first portion of gaseous nitrogen separated in a high-pressure column 9 is condensed therein by heat exchange with a coil 25 traversed by a portion of oxygen-rich liquid withdrawn from the column 9 through ducts 10, 11 and 23 and wherein a second portion of the nitrogen fraction is withdrawn from column 9 through a line 40 and is condensed in an exchanger 33 having a coil 32 traversed by oxygen-rich liquid withdrawn from the base of the high-pressure column 22 through ducts 27, 30 the oxygen-rich liquid withdrawn from the base of column 9 is divided into a first portion which is expanded at a valve 21 into the central level of column 22 and into a second position which is fed through duct 23 and coil 25 to the lower end of column 22 and the oxygen-rich liquid withdrawn from column 22 through line 27 is expanded at a valve 31 before traversing coil 32 and being warmed to ambient temperature in heat exchangers 35, 18, 63 and 61 and being discharged as product through a line 39. Feed compressed air is freed of condensible impurities in conventional reversing exchangers 5A, 5B, cooled by effluent nitrogen discharged from column 22 through a duct 50 assisted by a portion of nitrogen effluent discharged from column 9 through ducts 44, 47, an expansion turbine 48 and a duct 49.
