Abstract
1325166 Air separation process KOBE STEEL Ltd 19 Oct 1970 [20 Oct 1969] 49460/70 Heading F4P A compressed air stream 3 is cooled in reversible paths of heat exchangers 4, 5 and fed to the base of a single rectification column 8 from which gaseous air is withdrawn at 10 liquefied at 9 and returned to the column at 11 whilst oxygen-rich liquid is withdrawn at 12 and expanded at a valve 14 into the shell space 15 of a condenser-evaporator 16 thereby providing nitrogen reflux at 18, the so-vaporized crude oxygenrich gas is withdrawn at 9 from space 15, a portion thereof passed through liquefier 9, warmed in a non-reversing path of exchanger 5 work-expanded at 26 and added to the remainder of the crude oxygen in a line 29 and after passing through liquefier 9 is used to cool and derime that path of each exchanger 4, 5 previously traversed by feed air; product liquid nitrogen being withdrawn through a line 36, product gaseous nitrogen through a line 33, liquefier 9, a non-reversing path of each exchanger 4, 5 and a line 35 and carbon-dioxide and water impregnated crude oxygen through a line 31. The air feed line includes a CO 2 absorber 39, and the oxygen-rich liquid nitrogen line 12 includes a CO 2 and C 2 H 2 filter 13.
