An adjustable seating unit comprises a support frame 6, a pair of seat supports 5a, 5b carried by the support frame, a seat la or 1b mounted upon each seat support, and a back rest 2a or 2b attached to each seat, the seats 1a or 1b being arranged back to back and each of the back rests being hingedly attached, at one edge to the other back rest at 9 and at another edge to its own seat at 10a or 10b in such a manner that by drawing the seat supports apart along the support frame, the angle between the back rests is increased until a horizontal berth is formed by both seats and the back rests hinged thereto Abutments 11a, 11b are attached to the back rests 2a, 2b for supporting them on the frame 6 when they are horizontal. When in the drawn-out position the free ends of the seats may engage in clamps. The seats 1a, 1b may be locked in the sitting position by bolts having handles 8a, 8b respectively.
