Abstract

933,468. Conveyers. PRESSED STEEL CO. Ltd. April 4, 1962 [April 7, 1961], No. 12668/61. Class 78 (1). An endless belt conveyer is driven by compressed air which actuates a double-acting air cylinder 11 mounted on one of the side plates 12 of the conveyer to cause a piston 13 to reciprocate carrying an arm 14 attached to it. Parallel endless chains 15, 16 are carried by freewheel devices 17, 18; 21, 22 mounted on idler and driven shafts 19, 20. All the freewheel devices freewheel in the direction of the dotted arrows. The lower run of chain 15 is attached to the underside of the arm 14 and the upper run of chain 16 is attached to the upper side of the arm 14. When the arm 14 moves to the right, chain 15 drives roller 20, chain 16 free-wheeling. When the arm 14 moves to the left, chain 16 drives roller 20, chain 15 free-wheeling. The effect is to impart unidirectional motion to a conveyer belt (not shown). Compressed air from a feed 30 is directed to the cylinder 11 by a valve 25, poppet valves 28, 29 being arranged to cause reversal of the piston 13 at the end of each stroke.
