A conveyer belt 5 is driven by a double-acting fluid piston-cylinder motor 9 acting through a pair of oppositely acting one-way clutches (not visible in the drawing) built in to the assembly of a belt driving roll 4. The piston 10 of the motor 9 is connected to a two-armed lever 11, opposite ends of which are connected respectively to the two clutches by pairs of rods 12, 14. One rod of each pair has a tensioning member (not shown) to enable tightness of the corresponding chain to be maintained. The motor 9 is reversed at each end of its stroke by the action of a valve 16 connected by linkage 17, 18 to the lever 11. The inclination of the conveyer relative to its base frame 2 may be adjusted by a hand lever. Movement of conveyer may be assisted by provisions of a roller 19. The belt 5 may be tensioned by means 6.
