Abstract

817,851. Ratchet gearing. AJEM LABORATORIES Inc. Oct. 13, 1955 [Oct. 18, 1954], No. 29206/55. Class 80 (3). [Also in Groups XXV and XXX] In apparatus for conveying crankshafts through a washing apparatus (see Group XXX) an endless chain conveyer for the crankshafts is driven intermittently through ratchet gearing comprising an L-shaped pawl carrier 100 actuated by a cylinder 112 pivoted at 114 and having its piston-rod 110 connected to the pawl carrier. Pressure fluid is supplied alternately to the two ends of the cylinder by a reversing valve 116 controlled by switches 134, 135 actuated by an adjustable stop 136 on the pawl carrier at opposite ends of its movement. The long arm of the pawl carrier has a pawl 102 engaging a ratchet-wheel 92 to which is bolted a second ratchet-wheel 128 co-operating with a pivoted stop 140. Stop 140 is carried by an adjustable bracket 124 and is weight-biased into operative position to stop movement of the ratchet-wheels at the end of a stroke. The short arm of the pawl carrier is adapted to raise this stop when the carrier is returned to cornmence a fresh stroke.
