Abstract

933,259. Typewriters. MITE CORPORATION. April 20, 1961 [May 12, 1960], No. 14397/61. Class 100 (4). [Also in Group VIII] A paper carbon web (see Group VIII) of a width to receive a single line of printed matter, is of a light colour so that by arranging for the web to cross over itself the back of the web which is coated with the transfer material may print on the light colour. The one web thus serves as both the carbon paper and the second web and is fed downwardly at 52 past a hammer 60 with the carbon or inking surface towards a type wheel 66. Between the carbon and the wheel is a horizontal length 58 of the web with the light colour surface available to receive the impression. The arrangement allows the printed impression to be seen immediately. Feeding of carbon and record web.-The combined web is fed on the return stroke of a printing hammer 62 by a ratchet and pawl mechanism driving gears 74, 76 having plane friction surfaces 70, 72 co-operating with spring-biased rollers 78, 80. The incoming web may also be fed by similar rollers 108, 110 and surfaces 100, 102. Machines having positive or reversed type.- The type-wheel is rotated and axially shifted to select a character and is positioned behind the web which receives the impression from the hammer 60 situated in front.
