Abstract
933,204. Valves. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. May 18, 1961 [May 20, 1960], No. 18185/61. Class 135. A sliding plate gate valve comprises a gate member 9 in which at least two grooves 12 are provided in the low-pressure side face of the plate and extend in the direction of movement of the gate, these grooves communicating over a part of the stroke of the gate with apertures 13 in the seat to which a pressure medium can be supplied. The grooves are formed in side-wings which bear on support arms 8 formed on the seat member 7. In operation, upon opening or closing of the gate, a pressurized fluid is fed through a pipe 14 into the grooves via the apertures 13, thereby reducing the effort required to actuate the valve. The valve for controlling the supply of pressurized fluid may be actuated by movement of the gate valve stem 3.
