933,023. Feeding webs. HERR EQUIPMENT CORPORATION. Dec. 1, 1961, No. 43030/61. Class 100 (1). [Also in Group XXXV] Web-tensioning apparatus comprises a plurality of rollers 13, 14, 17 and 19, with roller 19 mounted for rectilinear movement vertically between rollers 13 and 14. Roller 19 is supported by means known as the Watt Straight Line Mechanism comprising linkages 20, 21 and 23. A weight 27 is used to counterbalance the effective weight of roller 19 to a requisite degree and it is supported by a rod 25 suspended from a transverse strut 24 at the end of linkage member 21. Weights may be added to roller 19 by placing weights upon a rod 125, Fig. 2. The lower end of a chain 28 suspended from one end of strut 24 is secured to a reactor 29 which controls the speed of drive means 18, Fig. 3, for driving rollers 14 and 17. Rollers 14 and 17 may have a suitable non-slip working surface such as rubber and be associated with a pinch roller (not illustrated).
