Abstract

Lengths of tubular plastic material are fed to a support, shown in the embodiment as a pair of rollers 19, 20 and guide plate 23 of a guillotine, from which a length of material hangs: from this position the length is gripped on both sides to transversely move the length of material away from the support over a stacking surface such as a table or tray 51. The grippers are mounted on two pairs of endless chains: one pair of chains transversely supports a series of grippers 31 and are driven by chain wheels 25, guided to the underneath or to the right of the hanging material, over wheels 28, horizontally over the table 51, and thence over wheels 33. The other series of grippers 43, which wait with the grippers 31, are driven simultaneously by continuous chains 41, and are timed to engage and grip the material at the same time as the cutters 22, 21, Fig. 3b, shear a length of material from the web. The grippers 43, 31 then carry the length over the table 51 and an adjustable bar 66, Fig. 3c, causes the material to float over the stacking surface. At the same time a brake 53 having a series of canvas loops 61, Fig. 3d, engage the material and hold it against further movement along the table 51. On the table, a tray may be fitted so the stack may be moved sideways for removal of the material.
