Abstract

Boiler feedwater enters a chamber 1 through an inlet 4 and passes through spraying heads 5 (controlled by valves 6 mounted on the false bottom 7 of the chamber) into a vessel 15 containing waste steam so that the steam condenses and the water is heated; incondensable gases flow from the vessel 15 through perforated shrouds 12 each having a cylindrical part (surrounding a spraying head 5) and a frustoconical part. The gases pass into a space 9 between the false bottom 7 and a bottom 3 and thence to a vent 10. Any condensate from the escaping gases is returned to the vessel 15 through a small hole 14 at the bottom of a tube 13 or from a U-tube in the place of the tube 13. <PICT:0932054/III/1>
