931,698. Feed-water heater. RICHARDSONS, WESTGARTH & CO. Ltd. Dec. 22, 1961 [Sept. 22, 1960], No. 32638/60. Class 64 (3). In a feed-water heater comprising a vessel 10 containing a steam desuperheater 12, a drain cooler 16 and a condenser 14 situated at or near one end of the vessel 10, a number of feed water tubes 18 extend from a header 22 at the end of the vessel 10 farthest from the condenser 14, through the steam desuperheater 12, the condenser 14 and the drain cooler 16, the drain cooler having a condensate outlet 38 provided with a plurality of spaced apart flow restrictors 40 and 42. As shown, feed water enters at inlet 24 and travels through U-tubes 18, finally reaching header 22 and outlet 26. Superheated steam, i.e. from a turbine enters at inlet 28 and passes into steam desuperheater 30 part of which is baffled and surrounds a portion of the U-tubes 18. The other part of the steam desuperheater surrounds a portion of the drain cooler. The steam desuperheater 12 is constructed to prevent condensate entering it from the condenser 14. When the steam leaves the steam desuperheater it enters the condenser 14 and is condensed on the cooler part of the U-tubes 14 whence it falls under gravity through the open end of the drain cooler 16 and then follows a tortuous path until reaching condensate outlet 38. Outlet 38 contains a plurality of spaced apart flowrestrictors 40 and 42 in the form of discs with central openings. The flow-restrictors regulate the level of condensate in the vessel 10. The header 22 includes a tube-plate 20 of curved cross-section. In a modification (see Figs. 2 and 3, not shown), the steam desuperheater jacket and the drain cooler lie side by side.
