Abstract
931,434. Honing. PERFECTION ENGINEERING Ltd. May 9, 1962 [May 12, 1961 No. 17371/61. Class 60. A hone of the kind incorporating a rotatable body supporting a plurality of abrasive stones the radial positions of which are adjusted by axial movement of a pair of frusto-conical adjustment members is characterized in that the body is provided adjacent to each of its ends with a pair of spring-retaining elements which are relatively movable in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the body, each pair of spring-retaining elements being movable between an open position in which they receive the radially extending end of a stone-retaining spring and a closed position in which they retain said end of the stone-retaining spring. Abrasive stones 11, each mounted on a stone carrier 12, are radially adjustable in slots in a rotatable body member 10 by a pair of frustoconical adjustment members 14 threadably engaged with a screwed spindle 15. Mounted within the body 10 adjacent to each end thereof is a fixed sleeve 16. Associated with each sleeve is a pair of spring-retaining elements 17, 18. The element 18 nearer the adjacent adjustment member 14 is secured to the sleeve 16. The element 17 is axially movable on the sleeve 16 and has secured thereto circumferentially spaced rods 19 extending through apertures in the fixed element 18. A coil spring 20 urges the movable element 17 towards the fixed element 18. The elements 17, 18 are each provided on their adjacent faces with an annular rib shaped on its inner face so that when the elements are in their closed position there is provided an annular recess having a cross-section tapered in a radially outward direction to receive heads 21 secured to or formed on the ends of stoneretaining springs 22 each secured to a stone carrier 12. When the adjustment members 14 are at their maximum separation, the elements 17, 18 are in open position to receive the heads 21 and as the adjustment members are moved towards each other the elements 17, 18 move to closed position to retain the heads 21.
