Abstract

A fitting, for clamping adjacent slotted members 8, 9 together, comprises a wedging member 11 and a plate 1, the plate having a body portion 2 in which a slot 3 is formed to receive the wedging member and a waisted end portion 6 which is insertable through registering slots 16 of the members and which, when then turned through a right angle, prevents the members from being released, whereby when the wedging member is then inserted through the slot to bear against one of the members, the latter are clamped together. In the arrangement according to Figs. 1 and 3 the wedge 11 is captive within the slot 3, the narrow end 13 of the wedge 11 being thickened laterally by a weld deposit 14. In another arrangement, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), the plate 1 comprises an L-shaped extension 20 at right angles to the plane of the plate, and a gusset plate 21 is connected to and extends at right angles to both the plate 1 and the extension 20. A wedge 23, Fig. 7, which is captive in the wedge slot of the plate by a weld deposit 24 is formed with a relatively short portion 25 at its narrow end, the arrangement being such that in attaching two adjacent lengths of slotted angle iron together, the plate and wedge are engaged in the aligned slots of the angle irons as shown in dotted lines and are then turned until a gusset plate 21 abuts an unslotted limb 26 of an angle iron 8 and prevents further turning movement of the plate. The wedge is then turned so that its main body portion extends through the slot 3 and is then driven home to the full line position shown. In the application to a shuttering wall a timber or metal waling may be inserted in the extensions 20 of the fittings disposed at the same level on the shuttering wall and which clamp adjoining panels together. The waling may be clamped by a bolt 27. In modifications, the waling may be supported on one face of the extension 20 and the wedge slot may extend into the extension to allow the use of a flat wedge. The fitting is applicable to slotted timber members.
