Abstract

930,080. Mixing liquids in proportions; aerating liquids. DALE VALVE CO. Nov. 6, 1959, No. 37757/59. Class 86. [Also in Groups VI, XVIII and XXVIII] In an apparatus for mixing and dispensing beverages (see Fig. 1, Group XVIII) the concentrate and water are mixed by a Venturi device in which a flow of pressure water enters by the passage 45 and induces a flow of concentrate through the conduit 57 and jet tube 44, the included angle of the converging portion 45 of the Venturi being 20 degrees to 35 degrees and of the diverging portion 65, 5 degrees to 7¢ degrees. The jet tube is axially adjustable in the body 36 by means of the threads 53, collar 49 and lock-nut 55. Movement of the jet tube towards the throat 46 will reduce the water flow by reason of the co-operation of the tapered portion 63 of the jet tube with the converging portion 45 of the Venturi and hence will increase the proportion of concentrate in the mix. For optimum results the lengths of the converging and diverging portions 45, 65 should respectively be at least ten and three times the diameter of the throat 46. The mixed liquids are aerated by air induced through an aperture 80 behind an annular shoulder 81 which prevents discharge of liquid through the aperture. The spout 21 has a right-angle bend which creates a back pressure to effect priming of the Venturi, which may be made of a transparent (e.g. plastics) material.
