An oil-control piston ring 4 has two circumferential grooves 1 in its outer periphery and oildrainage slots 2 extending from the base of each groove to the interior of the ring, the slots 2 being staggered so that the piers 3 remaining between the slots in one groove are each opposite a slot in the other groove. The top edge may be chamfered or radiused as shown at 4a. In a modification, the central land is initially proud of the other two lands; after a period of wear all lands contact the cylinder wall. One or more of the lands may be chromium-plated. Specification 328,671 is referred to.
