Abstract
928,740. Sealed beam lamps. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 6, 1962 [April 18, 1961], No. 13967/61. Class 39 (2). In a sealed beam lamp, the peripheral seal between the reflector and the cover members lies in a plane inclined to the normal to the optical axis, the boss or bosses which support the seals for the leads to the filament being located in the reflector member between the first plane and a second plane normal to the optical axis, the line of intersection of the planes forming a chord or tangent to the seal. The reflector member 1 carrying an ellipsoidal reflector 3 is sealed to the cover member 2 at 4, the plane of the seal and a plane 10 normal to the optical axis 9 forming a wedge-shaped portion of triangular cross-section in the plane through the optical axis, the bosses 8 into which the thimbles 7 for the lead-in wires 6 are sealed, being located at the base of the triangle. Preferably the angle subtended at the focus by the reflector member 1 is 240 degrees and that subtended by the cover member 2 is 120 degrees. The cover member 2 is preferably part-spherical. During sealing a shoulder 13 on the cover member abuts against a ledge 14 on the reflected member. The section of the lamp may be rectangular rather than circular.
