Abstract
1391677 Lighting fittings GRIMES MFG CO 16 May 1972 [16 June 1971] 23011/72 Heading F4R [Also in Division G2] A lighting arrangement for projecting a square beam of light comprises a light source 12, and a reflector 10 so disposed with respect to the light source that it would normally project a non-collinated circular beam of light, and a lens 32 having four arcuate prismatic segments so disposed with respect to the reflector to displace respective quadrants of the circular light pattern to form a composite square light pattern 30 at a predetermined distance from the reflector. The reflector 10 may be of the tilted ellipse type, i.e. formed by revolving a tilted segment of an ellipse about an axis, in which the angle of tilt is small; or the reflector may be parabolic with the lamp filament displaced forwardly of its focus, and in either case the composite lens 32 is, as shown, thicker at its periphery. Alternatively, Figs. 6-8 (not shown), when the reflector is of fitted ellipse type having a large angle of tilt or when it is parabolic with the lamp filament displaced behind its focus, the composite lens is thicker at its centre. A Fresnel technique may be applied to either of the lens constructions to reduce its thickness.
