Abstract

1,248,445. Vehicle headlamp. PROJECTEURS CIBIE. 4 Oct., 1968 [5 Oct., 1967], No. 47196/68. Heading F4R. A lamp with a masked beam comprises a reflector having an upper zone and a lower zone respectively generated by rotation about a central axis of two parabolic generatrices with focal rings which are eccentric to the central axis and which lie in planes perpendicular to the axis and pass respectively through one or the other end of a light source which is in the form of a cylinder tangential to the axis. A reflector 2 is constituted by two parabolic surfaces 2a, 2b. The surface 2a is generated by rotation about central axis AA of the parabola Pa having a focus Fa which forms a focal ring (fa, Fig. 1 not shown) when the parabola Pa is rotated. The surface 2b is likewise formed from parabola Pb having a focus Fb and a focal ring (fb, Fig. 1). A mask is provided around the light source 1, part of the mask 3a being cup-shaped with its front edge lying along the focal ring (fa) and the cup extending behind the ring. Another part of the mask 3b is cup-shaped with its rear lying along the other focal ring (fb) with the cup exstending in front of the ring. The mask also has sides (4, 5) which join parts 3a and 3b and shield the side of the source 1.
