Abstract

927,787. Seed driers; drying towers. BANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd., and J. S. JARVIS. Nov. 4, 1959 [Aug. 11, 1958], No. 25737/58. Class 34 (2). In a gravity feed seed drier having preheating, drying and cooling sections 2, 1, 3, respectively Figs. 1, 2, 3, the seed descends over inclined louvred floors 5 each of which comprises spaced and partially overlapping plates 11, Fig. 4, through which drying air is passed. Whilst the drying section 1 is fed by a hot-air furnace the air flowing through the floors 5 in the cooling section 3 is drawn from the atmosphere and subsequently passed to the preheating section 2. The drier, which incorporates baffles 10 as in Specification 813,242 and a seed discharging device as in Specification 813,241 comprises floor covers each of which may be of perforated or slotted plate or of a continuous stepped plate 17, Fig. 5, the risers 18 of which have punched-out portions 19 for the free passage of air. Various means for spacing the floor plates 11 are described in the Specification and the drier may include more than one section 1.
