Abstract

Gravity, materials descending by; air, controlling direction of flow of.-In drying-apparatus for grain in which the material is subjected to hot air while falling in thin streams and then passed in contact with water-heated radiators, the hot air for the first treatment is supplied from a separate heater 4 to which steam is supplied by a boiler 6. The grain &c. is distributed to a number of hoppers 10<x> leading to perforated passages 10 and thence to passages between the radiators 25 in the section 2. The outer and central chambers 14 are connected' to the heater 4, and the intermediate chambers 14 to a suction fan 7. The fan is similarly connected to the radiator section 2 and to the cooling section 3 of the apparatus, atmospheric air being allowed to enter these sections respectively through apertures placed below transverse beams supporting the radiators and the intermediate chambers 22 between perforated passages 21. The hot water for the radiators is circulated from a separate heater 5 to which steam is supplied from the boiler 6. In a modification, the hot air is drawn through a single stream of grain in a separate apparatus, the grain being then transferred by an elevator to the radiator and cooling sections.
